2010 will be the 6th MacRide !

UPDATE : 7 September 2010

Un-precedented numbers of entrants has meant that we have had to close online entries and restrict on-the-day entries . . . as well find additonal car parking - and a lot more bananas!

Message to self : Must get a picture wearing the 2010 jersey!

UPDATE : 10 February 2010

It's taken a while to collect and count all the money .... but we now know that the rides in 2009 raised a staggering £36,726 and brings the total that MacRide has raised since 2005 to about £100,000

The enthusiasm and generosity of the MacRiders continues to amaze me .... I'm embarrassed to say that I've been accosted in the street and at other cycling events with "Aren't you Rob, the bloke that organises the MacRide?  I did it in ..... what a great day out"

2009 saw us with over 800 entrants ... 1,000 this year?  As last year it seemed appropriate to again add a personal message to this year’s MacRide website.

From the “will it work?” first MacRide in 2005 we’ve come a long way, raising about £100,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support through: ride entry fees, an amazing volume of sponsorship and donations from riders, donations for MacRide jerseys* and the cycle tour CDs - the enthusiasm of our volunteers as well as generous help from businesses and organisations giving goods and services.

Raising money is what it’s all about - unlike many charity cycle rides our costs are very, very low - we usually manage to spend no more than about £200 each year.  That means even more goes to Macmillan to help people affected by cancer.

Elsewhere on the site there’s a section about past rides with lots of photographs - 2009 saw an addition to the day of cycling with a new event - the Shakespeare 100 Sportive, 100 miles or 100 kilometres - we had over 300 entrants and had to close entries before the day.  Apart from riders from all over the UK we had Jeff Banks, the Clothes Show man and well-known clothing designer riding to support Macmillan.

MacRide 2010, by popular request, is almost unchanged : 25 or 63 miles (and the Family Ride) using the same great courses, with bigger and better signage..

As always WE REALLY WOULD LIKE MORE RIDERS TO TAKE PART … please put the date in your diary and get your family, friends, work colleagues to come along.  Don't forget that we have our own Sponsor a Rider service .... online giving with much lower fees, meaning more goes to Macmillan.

We’re looking forward to another great MacRide on 12 September - and a repeat of the superb weather we had in 2009.

Rob

* We raised sponsorship to produce a super new MacRide jersey for 2010 - and sold them all within just a few weeks.  We've already started work on raising the funding to be able to have another jersey (and more of them for 2011)
